What Podless costs: balance, hours, storage

Kimon Neuhoff 4 min read

Most hosts sell packages: small, medium, large, each stuffed with things you do not need. Podless sells three resources — CPU, memory, storage — and bills what you actually occupy. Here is how that works in detail.

A balance instead of an invoice

You load a balance in euros, from €5. There is no card on file that gets charged at the end of the month — what you did not load cannot be debited. New accounts start with a €5 welcome credit so you can try things without entering anything.

When the balance runs low, Podless tells you. When it is used up, your apps pause until you top up — the data stays put. If you never want to see that happen, enable automatic top-up from a threshold.

CPU and memory: per hour, while the app runs

Every tier has an hourly price. While your app runs, the meter ticks; stop it and the meter stops. That makes experiments cheap: an app you only need on weekends costs only its storage during the week.

Change the size and the new price applies from the next hour. There is no minimum term and no fee for resizing.

Storage: per month, because the data stays

You occupy storage even while the app is stopped — your photos are still there, after all. That is why it is billed monthly, pro rata by day. Growing it works any time without data loss; the next tier applies from the day of the change.

What does an app cost per month?

  • A note app for yourself — 0.25 CPU, 0.5 GB RAM, 5 GB storage: about €1.70 a month running around the clock.
  • Immich for the family — 2 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 150 GB storage: about €9.50 a month.
  • A CRM for a small team — 2 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB storage: about €8.30 a month.

All prices include VAT. The pricing calculator shows the figure for any other combination — it is the same one you see when starting an app.

What does not cost extra

  • The podless.app address and the certificate, also for your own domain.
  • Updates that were tested first.
  • The database inside the pod.
  • Logs, resource monitoring, access restrictions, SFTP.
  • Backups into your own S3 bucket — the bucket itself is yours, and so are its costs.

What happens if you leave?

Delete the app and it costs nothing from that minute on. No notice period, no form, no phone call. Your balance does not expire, but we do not pay it back when you leave on your own — so spend it first. If we discontinue something, you get it back.
